Notable for its extreme scarcity, Tepemete is a wild agave known for its refined and gentle taste. Grown within the rugged mountains of Durango, Mexico, it requires 10 to 12 years to reach full maturity before it is ready to be hand-harvested and transported by donkeys along steep terrains. It takes roughly 14 kilograms of fresh Tepemete to produce one liter of mezcal. The piñas weigh 25 kilograms on average.
